I've just been reading Susan & EA's thread re. plum sauces and well, where to source your plums
If the neighbour's driveway isn't completely it and a bit Tanamera Native Produce may be worth a try. I've recently bought up big (for me anyway) and been 110% happy with all sorts of fruits. While the business has just/is just re-located out of my neck of the woods, if the new Qld owner continues with the same growers I think you'd be really happy with the product.
Not sure about current contact details, web addresses and the like, but surely Google would reveal all!
Cheers,
Clare |

Have just been following this little idea up - there's been a discussion around the Canberra blogosphere about local sources of produce and, sadly, I'm not it - YET - and have found contact details for all KINDS of people. It's on the CSIRO site here: http://www.cse.csiro.au/research/nativefoods/industryprofile/processors.htm
Tanamera apparently put out a book, too; anyone got a copy?? I'm trying to collect all the books on bush tucker in Australia, although right at the moment I'm passing over anything that concentrates on either the desert or tropical north foods. You'd think that'd leave a fair amount but there's startlingly little that either encompasses the non-arid, sub-tropical or temperate areas, and less still that focus on them to the exclusion of tropical and arid.
Never would I deny the foodstuffs of those areas, of course, but the fact is that I'd be an idiot to try and grow things that require conditions I simply can't supply. Others are doing that; I should be concentrating on what my area supplies.
If I could but find them ... _________________ eat australia: grow it, find it, eat it

Hi EA,
I followed that CSIRO link and the contact details for Tanamera is the old business owner, not the new... Nevertheless, by phoning/emailing Jenny using this, she'd be able to pass on the new owner's details.
As for the Tanamera book - yes I've heard of that too, and that was the _even_ older business owner... Ray someone? Anywoo - good luck with that as I'd be interested in a copy if you find two! But thinking of people who might have their very own - maybe you should check with people on http://www.bushfood.net/ . My braincell's telling me that maybe BT has a copy...

Hi guys,
Just to let you all know that Tanamera native foods have now changed name to Australian Produce owned by Anne Osborne and have a great web site and range of native products.
www.australianproduce.com.au/
As well you can contact Tukka if you are in the area as we also sell a retail range that is not as extensive.
I hope this helps out your quest for native products.
Enjoy! |
