| Hi! I have been to Tukka Restaurant often and I am quite a fan. I have heard from a reputable source that goanna makes the best eating. Tukka has many different meats available from crocodile to possum but I have never seen goanna on the menu. Can anyone tell me what this meat tastes like? |

Hi Bishy!
I have never had goanna before but someone told me it's the texture of skate with a meatier, mutton-like quality. Not sure if that makes me want to try it, but anyhow!........
When I was in the NT, there were a few tribes that I visited and they all have a very particular rule when it comes to goanna. You can eat it, but not if a dog has caught it for you (whether domestic or wild). To do so, would cause excruciating back pains! The local uncle elder would normally grind the bones of the said goanna and shove them into a yam and make you eat it, to remove the spiritual bonds that are what cause the said pains.
Very interesting, I thought! So, no using doggies to get your goanna! _________________ ------------------

I must say that goanna has been on my dare to eat list for a while now.
We can't get a wholesale supply for the restaurant (or that we have found yet) but would love to get some in if we could for a taste.
Tukka would love to know if there are any suppliers out there. |
